John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of them situated in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in the love of Colorado and later moved to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Today he personifies the state for people worldwide. On my journeys around the world, I've encountered many individuals who do not hail from Colorado. They'll declare, "Oh John Denver!" when they hear that you're from Colorado. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short time in small folk groups. Danoff initially wrote the song to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it could be a huge hit. After performing the song on stage in Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver recorded it just days later.
